Personal Project: Mid-Century Motel Illustration
I think showing personal projects in a portfolio is just as important as professional work. It shows the gamut of the designer's abilities when client work isn't always able to explore those skillsets.
Mid-century modern is one of my favorite design styles—for furniture, architecture, and graphic design. I love the rich color palettes, geometric lines, and playfulness. I also love the beauty and craftsmanship of old neon signs. It makes me sad that it's a dying art form. I created this illustration of a roadside motel as a fun side project that let me practice my illustration skills and pay tribute to the travels of yesteryear.
